darkcasey What I found on A Taxonomy of Grief was a collection of tracks that seemed to capture the uneasy melancholy and shock of grief, the way that the sufferer knows things are real, and that they happened, but their body and mind don’t really “feel” it; it hasn’t sunken in. Certain of the tracks also had a great ability to present the feeling of time stretching, a little like the grief equivalent of boredom, when the night seems to never end, and neither does the emotional turmoil. Favorite track: A Taxonomy of Grief.

Noctilucant A highly atmospheric, melodic and neo classical-ish dark ambient album! A very warm and exciting release from, Sumatran Black! Favorite track: Do Not Answer the Telephone.

about

Dungeon in Deep Space Dark Ambient Album of the Year 2021

“A Taxonomy of Grief” is the final album of the Sumatran Black Necrotrilogy.

Artistic risks are quite insignificant in the grand scheme of things but still it's unfortunately part of human nature that we often tend to dwell on the fear of failure, when we should instead be confident that the audience is rooting for us and ready to cheer us on as we venture as artists (and listener together) into uncharted and potentially, perilous musical territory.

And while the dangers that lie ahead here are not physical in nature but emotional, they can on occasion be a force to be reckoned with. So whatever happens along the way, thanks for coming on this journey with me. I hope any sadness that you carry is fleeting.

The running time is over two hours so if you prefer to listen to the album in parts, here is my recommendation.

Part 1: Tracks 1-5
Part 2: Tracks 6-9
Part 3: Tracks 10-13

Dedicated to Howard Gordon Reeves.
